"Mary Anne Grimmell
Friend and Mentor of the Arabian Horse Breed"

When starting to write this tribute to my best friend, Mary Anne Grimmell, it started out to be a short sharing of the work, travels and times of enjoyment the two of us had over our many years of working for the Arabian horse breed which created our many years of friendship.

As my memories flowed onto the pages of this book and  I thought back in recall of all those many years,  I found myself realizing that Mary Anne was such a special person who had touched many, many lives in our Arabian horse world and in the process had contributed a tremendous amount of very positive influence to our Arabian horse breed in more areas than just the International Arabian Horse Association (IAHA).  As I began recalling times gone by, remembering so many special people started painting the picture of the very in-depth and rich influence Mary Anne had created as she walked the long path of many years of life.  I couldn’t leave anything out of this tribute of which I shared with her or of which I am aware, so this book expanded into so many more areas than just Mary Anne, me and IAHA.

"Recovered Edition of the Bulldog Record:
1928 "Fall" Commerce High School
Yearbook"

My Mom, My Inspiration

In Memory of my Mom
Winifred (nee St. John)
Mont-Eton/Chappell

When my Mom passed away on July 10, 2010, at the age of 99, I discovered that her High School Yearbook had been lost back in the 1930's.  I was fortunate to be able to find this information in various areas and in her memory have recovered this book.  I took the opportunity to also add a bit about her life specifically which makes this book truly in her memory.  I am happy to share this with anyone who might have interest, especially those descendants of Mom's fellow classmates.

"Influence of Foot-Length on the Gait of Horses"

The contents of this book specifically address the Arabian horse breed; however, these test results are very applicable to any horse of any breed, including grade horses.

Some of the  information I share contained within this book is specific to the Arabian breed in the area of natural movement  However, the actual test results are applicable to all breeds in maintaining sound and healthy horses, no matter what that breed’s natural movement may be.  All breeds and even grade horses for that matter must have proper foot care focused on making sure the naturalness of movement of that particular horse is not compromised.  Otherwise, improper care can lead to lameness and other problems in many places over the body.  There are 4 graphs within this report recorded by high-speed videography showing how the entire body carriage is affected by long versus short feet which shifts the peak concussion point within the foot.  These tests are just a start and do not even begin to address the problems of pads, weight of shoes and many more man-made creations in the name of  “better movement."
